Gerard Depardieu Misses Court Date In Paris
Gerard Depardieu recently skipped out on a court appearance in Paris.
The actor is currently in the United States filming a movie. His lawyer said this is the reason he was unable to make the court date. He previously failed to show up for an appearance back in January.
Gerard Depardieu will be required to show up on May 24 to face charges of driving while intoxicated. The actor was riding his motorized scooter last November when an accident occurred. He could two years in prison if he is found guilty of the charges.
The court reportedly approved the delay after investigators discovered new evidence surrounding the actor’s brush with the law.
Gerard Depardieu is currently filming a movie about former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn. The movie is being filmed in the United States under the direction of Abel Ferrara. Production is currently underway in New York.
The Green Card star has been in the news quite a bit in recent months. The actor reportedly fled France in protest of President Francois Hollande’s proposede 75 percent tax rate on incomes over one million euros per years.
Depardieu was given a passport by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stayed in Moscow for a few days before heading off to Saransk to register as a resident.
Russian state television explained:
“They will put a stamp in his most important document [passport] giving him permanent registration at a concrete address. The flat where Depardieu will be registered is in a building on Democracy Street in central Saransk.”
Gerard Depardieu is currently living in a building owned by family members of Russia’s State Film Fund chief. It’s unknown if the actor will eventually purchase property of his own in the country.
