Jeremy Irons Makes Strange Gay Remarks, Suggests Fathers Will Marry Sons
Jeremy Irons recently found himself the center of attention after making several strange remarks that have angered the gay community.
The actor stated that gay marriage in Britain could lead to fathers marrying their sons in an effort to avoid certain taxes. Not surprisingly, his remarks have not settled well with several gay rights activists and organizations.
Although Jeremy Irons said he didn’t have an opinion one way or the other about gay marriage, he soon unleashed a series of remarks that left people scratching their heads in disbelief.
The actor said during his interview with The Huffington Post:
“Could a father not marry his son? It’s not incest between men [because] incest [law] is there to protect us from inbreeding, but men don’t breed. I don’t have a strong feeling either way. Living with another animal, whether it be a husband or a dog, is great. It’s lovely to have someone to love.”
Irons also decided to weigh in on how society would change in the wake of widespread gay marriage.
“It seems to me that now they’re fighting for the name. I worry that it means somehow we debase, or we change, what marriage is. I just worry about that,” the award-winning actor said.
Britain’s Stonewall organization quickly addressed Jeremy Irons’ gay remarks, labeling the actor’s interview as “bizarre.”
“Few people will agree with Jeremy Irons’ bizarre ‘concerns’ about equal marriage. Sadly his comments do seem to indicate he’s taken his role as a Pope in ‘The Borgias’ a little too seriously,” the group said in a statement.
Alan Cumming responded to Jeremy Irons’ peculiar gay remarks as well. The actor’s reaction to the interview came in the form of a recent post on Twitter.
I hate when people say they don’t have strong feelings about something then proceed to spew offensive and ignorant ones #jeremyirons

Cumming wasn’t the only celebrity who decided to take shots at Irons after his strange remarks started making the rounds online. Stephen Colbert bashed the actor during a recent episode of his television program.
“So, if gay marriage is legalized in England, Jeremy Irons’ son Max: Get ready to make your father the happiest man alive,” Colbert joked.
