‘Baggage Claim’ Rom-Com Gets Release Date
Baggage Claim, the upcoming romantic comedy from writer-director David Talbert, will star Paula Patton and be released on September 27, 2013, according to a Thursday report from Deadline.
According to the website, the film will be based on Talbert’s 2003 novel and, in addition to Patton, will star Taye Diggs, Derek Luke, Boris Kodjoe, Jill Scott, Adam Brody, and Djimon Hounsou.
Assuming the film follows closely to the book — and why shouldn’t it, Talbert has Hollywood’s rare honor of creative control from print to screen — it will focus on flight attendant Montana Moore (Patton), who finds herself the oldest unmarried woman in the family at age 35.
In an attempt to remedy that situation before her sister walks down the aisle, Moore makes use of airline connections to track down the perfect man in 30 days or 30,000 miles.
To be effective in Baggage Claim, Patton will have to step away from the comforts of married life. Her relationship with 36-year-old singer Robin Thicke has been going strong for close to eight years, and the couple have a child together.
Patton appeared very secure in their relationship in recent comments from Thicke to Newsday.
The R&B crooner’s adults-only video for the song “Blurred Lines,” which is now up to more than one million views on YouTube, was apparently shot, naked babes in all, with Patton’s blessing.
“Obviously if she didn’t like it, I wouldn’t put it out,” Thicke said, adding that Patton had been very supportive of the video over the kid-friendly version, which is up to 800,000 views.
If Patton did have any resentment for the video, she always has the love scene with Denzel Washington in Deja Vu — and perhaps another in the upcoming film 2 Guns? — in which to take comfort.
Have you read Baggage Claim? How eager are you to see Paula Patton as a headliner? And will you be buying a ticket when the film releases later this year?
