Sorry internet, if a recent lollipop hoax intrigued you — it seems the clever minds behind the internet’s viral videos have managed to pull another one over on us.
The lollipop hoax video was uploaded last week by user “Rich Smith,” purporting to show a man in Singapore with an unusual talent.
Presented with a Chupa Chups lollipop, the “sculptor” very enthusiastically services the candy, as onlookers express skepticism. One explains the background:
“Supposedly, this dude molds stuff, like, with a lollipop … Let’s see what he does. It’s been like 10 minutes now.”
The lollipop hoax clip has garnered nearly a million views — and towards the end, the man spits out the sucker to reveal a very detailed likeness of a head, to exclamations of “no bloody way!”
User Rich Smith had uploaded just the one video, and in the comments it seems now everyone is skeptical of the lollipop hoax.
A week later, Chupa Chups revealed what many suspected about “uncle” and his strange lollipop talent — the clip was a marketing ploy, and there is no dude in Singapore who can sculpt detailed renderings of people’s faces out of suckers. Suckers.
Below is the first clip that began the lollipop hoax trend:
And after it, what looks like an interview with the lollipop “sculptor” — a young woman queries him in a drab restaurant of some sort, and the camera cuts away:
The uploaded? Chupa Chups Global, who mark the video as the truth about the lollipop hoax.
