JaMarcus Russell Drops 27 Pounds, Hopes To Make NFL Comeback [Video]
JaMarcus Russell has dropped 27 pounds in an effort to make it back to the NFL.
Russell, who was the No.1 draft pick in 2007, said that he still has a long way to go to get back into playing shape but he is happy that he’s not “breathing like a fat man” anymore.
According to Bleacher Report, Russell started working out in February when he was 315 pounds. Over the last two months, Russell has dropped 27 pounds and is getting closer to his 270 pound goal.
Russell said: “Through the first couple weeks I could barely make it through the workout. … It was crazy. We go in to do the warm-up and here I am breathing like a fat man. So now I’m breathing pretty good and able to stand up on my own two feet.”
Russell hasn’t played in the NFL since January, 2010, but he’s hoping to get some interest from NFL teams later this month when he hosts a pro day on April 10.
The former NFL player has been training at the TEST Academy in San Diego and his journey back to the NFL has been documented by a series of videos by Bleacher Report.
Here’s the latest video about JaMarcus Russell’s comeback.
And just for comparison’s sake, here’s a look at JaMarcus Russell before he started to work out again.
