Beyonce: ‘I’m A Modern Day Feminist’

With popstars acting out regularly, it seems like there’s only one popstar who’s ready to step up to the plate to speak out responsibly. That popstar is the one and only, Beyonce, who seems to agree that it’s about time to change how we view each other in our society.

In an interview with Vogue, which is out on stands Monday, April 8, Beyonce insists, that she’s “a modern day feminist.” For those not sure what she the vocalist means, Beyonce has come out to speak about what she believes in as a contributing member of society.

On her beliefs in equal rights for all, Beyonce elaborates that she might just be a modern-day feminist. ” I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman. I do believe in equality and that we have a way to go and it’s something that’s pushed aside and something that we have been conditioned to accept.”

The fact that Beyonce sees herself as a modern-day feminist is certainly not surprising for anyone that has kept up with Beyonce. In recent years, Beyonce has made changes to her life and has broken out as an independent woman in the industry and in her personal life. Her hardest decision, which was documented in her HBO special Life is But A Dream, was when she fired her father as her manager.

Leading up to the special Beyonce spoke with Oprah Winfrey on her choice to break away from her father, Matthew Knowles, saying:

“It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding. When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock. And we had our issues. I’d say ‘no’ to something, and he’d book it anyway. Then I’d have to do it because I’d look bad [if I didn’t].”

Do you agree that Beyonce is a modern-day feminist?
