Google Introduces Gmail Blue: It’s Just Like Regular Email, But Blue
Google continues to unveil April Fool’s day jokes, this time with the release of Gmail Blue, the company’s next big version of email which is completely colored blue.
So far, Google has announced that YouTube is closing down and that a new product called Google Nose can smell for nearby ghosts. The search giant also announced Google Treasure Maps for Google Maps users.
Google has a long storied history of releasing April Fool’s Day jokes. When the search giant first started releasing its jokes in 2000, they were simple. For example, Google’s first joke asked users to attempt the MentalPlex. The program invited users to project a mental image of what they wanted to find whilst staring at an animated gif. The MentalPlex then displayed various messages including “Error 001: Weak or no signal detected. Upgrade transmitter and retry” and “Error 666: Multiple transmitters detected. Silence voices in your head and try again.”

Google doesn’t really try to hide the fact that it’s jokes are meant for April Fool’s Day. What the company does manage to do is release some pretty funny videos. Here’s the Google Blue video:
Google doesn’t say why it went with the blue coloring for Gmail Blue; however, we get the distinct impression that it has something to do with Facebook’s constant use of the color blue all over its social network.
Google has been participating in April Fool’s Day jokes for 13 years, and, if anything, it appears the company’s jokes are becoming more advanced in their scope. What do you think of Google’s April Fools day jokes so far this year?
