US Sen. Rand Paul is suggesting that Hollywood A-listers are slightly hypocritical when it comes to calling for strict gun control regulations.
The libertarian-leaning Republican made the comments on FNC’s Sean Hannity show with Eric Bolling sitting in as guest host.
Rand Paul recently captured the attention of America — and gave everyone a tutorial about the Fifth Amendment — during his filibuster of John Brennan’s CIA nomination.
With regard to Hollywood stars and guns , this is what the Kentucky senator had to say:
‘Many rich Hollywood celebrities have armed guards with them at all times and then many regular people who live in a poor neighborhood, who have a business in a poor neighborhood and a neighborhood that may have higher crime — those people have to suffer the vicissitudes of violent crime without protection sometimes because of gun control laws. So, yes, I think there is a certain amount of hypocrisy.”
Paul did not specifically address the fact that Hollywood is also “ making a killing ” on gun violence in popular action adventure movies, however.
The senator did reaffirm his commitment to launch a filibuster — with Sen. Marco Rubio and other like-minded lawmakers — against any new gun control legislation that is inconsistent with the Second Amendment. Paul insisted that none of the president’s gun control proposals would save one life in the horrible tragedy that occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. He declared that most crimes are committed with illegal guns and that “Criminals do crime; they don’t pay attention to our laws.” As far as this legislative package is concerned, “the president is into showmanship,” Rand opined.
Responding to a question about outspoken gun-control-advocating politicians such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg being protected around-the-clock by armed NYPD detective bodyguards, Rand Paul commented as follows:
“I don’t begrudge any famous person like Mayor Bloomberg, or the president or the president’s family from having protection — I think they all should. There’s enough crazy people out there that would attack on the right or the left. But I think when you are being protected by people who have weapons who are responsible people, I can’t see why you would be opposed to that for other people.”
