A couple from Philadelphia recently honored a slain loved-one in the most unique way earlier this month — they got married at his funeral.
According to Philly.com , Reggie Wade and Monique McMillan-Wade exchanged wedding vows during the funeral for the Wade’s uncle, Gregory “Chops” Scott, on March 9. Scott was reportedly gunned down by his own family member after a heated argument in late February.
Prior to his death Chops had promised to walk McMillian-Wade down the aisle because her own father was deceased.
Reggie Wade said he believed that carrying out his wedding at the funeral was a way of keeping the promise made by his uncle.
“This was the last time his presence was gonna’ be here with us, and he promised me,” Wade said. “It’s like I got to live up to my word. We never lie to each other.”
According to Hip Hop wired , 2,000 people attended the wedding/funeral held at the First Corinthian Baptist Church. Scott’s wife, Alfreda Johnson-Scott, expressed support of her nephew’s decision to carry out his nuptials at the event.
“We keep our promises, and he promised to give her away,” she said. “It might not have been the right way, but he still gave her away.”
Oddly enough, the Wade’s funeral wedding isn’t the only bizarre marriage story this year.
In January, a Thai man married his deceased girlfriend in a combination funeral and wedding ceremony.
Chadil Deffy, also known as Deff Yingyuen, placed a ring on the finger of Sarinya “Anne” Kamsook, his girlfriend of 10 years, during the ceremony in Thailand’s Surin province.
The couple had planned to get married in the future, but Yingyuen wanted to focus on his studies before tying the knot. When Anne was unexpectedly killed in accident, Deff decided to honor his word and carry out the marriage ceremony.
