Earlier in the month we reviewed the emotionally charged The Place Beyond the Pines . Now we have an exclusive featurette on the behind the scenes featuring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper and director Derek Cianfrance.
The Place Beyond the Pines , which was one of the first films bought outside of the Toronto Film Festival has been faring well amongst critics . A plot synopsis of the Derek Cianfrance father/son film reads as follows:
“Ryan Gosling plays Luke, a drifter who makes a living doing motorcycle stunts in a traveling carnival. When he discovers that he has an infant son, he decides he wants to be able to take care of the child. He meets an ex-convict who knows how to rob banks, and learns from him how to pull off heists. His actions cause his life to become intertwined with a police officer named Avery (Bradley Cooper), who chases after him during a robbery.”
In the featurette “Going To The Place Beyond the Pines” a tattooed Ryan Gosling gives insight to his role as a motorcycle stunt driver in Derek Cianfrance’s latest film. “He’s had a very troubled life.” For Gosling The Place Beyond the Pines is “about the things you pass on to your kids if you don’t address them in your life, then your kids have to deal with them.”
Cianfrance elaborates on the film, “Luke tries to figure out a way to be a father. Avery’s on the job and he comes face to face with Luke Glanton and their worlds meet. It’s about legacy, how someone can make a choice and generations later you can still be dealing with those choices.”
For Gosling, the source material became kismet between himself and director Derek Cianfrance. “I told Derek it was always a fantasy of mine to rob banks. I said if I were to rob a bank I would do it on a motorcycle, and then he said, ‘I just wrote a movie about that.”
