Nicki Minaj: ‘American Idol’ Winner Won’t Be A Boy This Year

Nicki Minaj has an American Idol prediction — there won’t be a male winner this year.

The show has a particularly strong slate of female singers this year, but there are rumors that those running the reality show are actively trying to push for a girl to win it all. Nicki Minaj, the loose cannon of a judge, seemed to verify those rumors in an interview on Monday.

Speaking by phone to reporters, Nicki Minaj was asked if there was any chance a boy could win American Idol .

Her answer was direct: “NO!” After a silent moment, she added: “No. Absolutely not. Not a chance.”

The show seems to be playing to that script so far. The first two contestants gone from the top 10 were both male, Pail Jolley and Curtis Finch Jr. There are now only three male contestants left vying for the title — Lazaro Arbos, Burnell Taylor, and Devin Velez. After hovering in the bottom three for the last two weeks, Devin appears to be out the door soon.

The statement from Nicki Minaj isn’t too surprising for those who have followed her on American Idol this year. The judge has displayed some strange behavior, starting right off the bat with a (possibly fake) feud with fellow judge Mariah Carey.

Then last week Nicki Minaj showed up late to a live airing of the show, forcing producers to scramble and host Ryan Seacrest to explain to viewers that she was caught in traffic.

The following day, Nicki threw a mini-tantrum when Curtis Finch Jr. was on the block to go home and threatened to quit the show if he left.

Minaj said : “Curtis, if you go home. I go home … I definitely think Curtis should not be in the bottom two. I mean, I love Devin but I think that Curtis, if you look at every one of his performances, I mean — come on, America, are you kidding me?”

Nicki Minaj even got out of her seat and began to walk away, but returned to her American Idol duties again immediately.
