Tebow struggles in Senior Bowl practice
As we head towards the 2010 NFL draft Tim Tebow faces an uphill battle to become a highly thought of NFL QB prospect. That is kind of tough to say since Tebow may be one of the best College football players of all time, but there are serious questions about how is game transfers to the NFL level. In College Tebow ran a spread offense where the wide out spread the defense all over the field, it is an offensive attack that is rarely used in the NFL, and now we see the crux of Tebow’s issues.
The main problem with the spread offense is it requires the QB to take most of the snaps in the shotgun formation. Since most NFL snaps are taken with the QB directly behind the Center, Tebow has this week at the annual Senior Bowl and the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine to prove to NFL scouts that he can run a pro style offense.
In the first day of practice, today, Tebow struggled to keep a hold of snaps from center. He fumbled the first one, and went out to badly botch five or six. It is not what NFL scouts wanted to see from Tebow. However that may be the least of Tebow’s problems. Many in attendance of the Senior Bowl practice criticized Tebow on his mechanics, far and beyond his struggles to take a snap from center.
What all these means is Tebow is losing his chance to be a first round pick. He has just an outside chance of that before this process started, and it seems likely that is slipping away. Tebow’s job now must be to impress scouts enough that given time he can learn to run a pro style offense. If he can do that he will be a mid round draft pick, and suffer on the sidelines of NFL games for the next few years.
