Letterman Bans ‘Spring Breakers’ Director For Stealing From Meryl Streep

It’s no secret Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine was banned from David Letterman’s Late Night show. If anyone has had the honor of seeing Korine appear on Letterman’s show in the 90s, it wouldn’t be much of a shocker when hearing the director was eventually banned from appearing on the show.

Labeled as “the pleasantly odd Harmony Korine” by the host, the string of twitchy, nonsensical, but all around comedic gold that occurred during Korine’s appearances on David Letterman proved to be just the tip of the iceberg in sound bites from Harmony. Back then the gawky writer of unconventional films like Kids , and Gummo (which he also directed), proved to be on a completely different planet than the Late Night host.

However, his awkward and sometimes drug-induced state while on the show didn’t have much to do with his banning. Letterman let the cat out of the bag on last night’s show when Spring Breakers star James Franco attended the show to promote Korine’s latest mind numbing masterpiece. Franco brought up Korine’s ban from Letterman , and it was revealed that the director was caught trying to steal from Meryl Streep during his last appearance on David Letterman.

The host further explained the incident that lead to Korine’s ban,

“I went upstairs to greet Meryl Streep, and welcome her to the show, and I knock on the door. and she was not in there. And I looked around, and she was not in there, and I found Harmony going through her purse. True story. And so I said, ‘That’s it, put her things back in her bag and then get out.”

Oddly enough James Franco might have mended matters between Letterman and Korine, saying “He said he was a little out of it. I think he had a period where he was going a little off the rails, so maybe he was on something that night.”

Before Franco’s Spring Breakers guest appearance was over, Letterman said he would be “more than happy” to have Korine back on the show. Seeing as Korine is still a bit awkward, but doesn’t appear to be on any chemical substances, it will be rather interesting to see how he will get on with dry humored Letterman.

Now that the mystery behind the ban has been solved, we wonder what Meryl Streep thinks of the whole thing.
