‘Divergent’ Movie Adaptation Adds Three More To Cast
Divergent movie casting made yet another stride forward on Monday with the announcement of three new members to a cast that already includes Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, and Jai Courtney.
Deadline reported that Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, and Christian Madsen have boarded the sci-fi thriller based on the novel by Veronica Roth.
The film will begin in a future world where people are divided into personality groups. Woodley has stepped into the lead role of Beatrice Prior, a “divergent,” or person who will never fit into any one group.
Her character unlocks a conspiracy to destroy those like her, forcing her to get to the bottom of things before the responsible parties make good on their plans.
Lloyd-Hughes will play Dauntless initiate Will while Lamb will join him as Al. The Dauntless are a tribe formed around courage and strength. Madsen has been tasked with the Edward role.
Earlier this month, Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) came aboard as Eric, a face-pierced leader of the Dauntless faction. Eric reports to Kate Winslet’s character, Jeanine Matthews.
Winslet’s involvement was announced last week.
The Hollywood Reporter noted earlier this month that Ray Stevenson, Miles Teller, and Aaron Eckhart were close to roles in the film and also reported that Downton Abbey‘s Theo James would play opposite Woodley in the male lead as “Four,” Beatrice’s love interest.
Thus far, the 25-year-old Lloyd-Hughes is most known for his role in Tormented, a horror film about a bullied teen who returns from the dead for vengeance.
Lamb has a starring role as Anthony Rivers on the eight-episode drama The White Queen for BBC.
Madsen had a small role in 2011’s In Time opposite Justin Timberlake, and last year he starred with father Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs) in the film Refuge from the Storm.
What do you think of the new casting choices? Will you be in line when the Divergent movie adaptation opens on March 21, 2014?
