The Wolverine , the X-Men spinoff film, got a six-second teaser today.
The X-Men series has seen its share of ups and downs, from critical disappointment throughout the series, to what seemed a resurrection of expectations with X-Men: First Class . The first X-Men was an achievement in film, giving us a first-time glimpse of some of our favorite Marvel super heroes in live action. X-Men 2 ( or X-2: X-men United ) was a more action-packed follow-up giving us a more in-depth look at the character that everybody knew would end up the focus, Wolverine.
X-Men 3: The Last Stand was a disappointing finale (for the time being) that seemed to forget what the first two films were about and killed off a lot of characters everybody liked. X-Men Origins: Wolverin e tried to give us a look back into the history of Wolverine, but it failed in almost every way, even completely contradicting the flashback scenes we had already seen in X-Men 2 .
X-Men: First Class was the first time since the original that critics didn’t hate the series, as it gave us a completely new set of characters to add to some younger versions of old favorites like Cyclops, Professor Xavier, Magneto, and Beast. The next X-Men film will be based on a comic book story arc involving time travel.
The Wolverine brings us back to when James Howlett (now known as Logan) received training in Japan to be the ultimate killing machine.
The six-second teaser starts with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) looking angry in a room with a yellowish background. Then we see a snippet of sword-play as the Wolverine duels a fellow Japanese swordsman. Then someone in a yellow overcoat seems to be starting some trouble in a public marketplace, and gets Wolverine involved. Then we see Wolverine in what looks like a high-tech restraining chair with metal bands around his wrists, looking angry at an attractive blonde. Then he has his claws extended as she touches them with a black fingernail.
Elsewhere in this teaser, we see a glimpse of Famke Janssen possibly reprising her role as Jean Grey. The rest of the teaser is below.
