Who has the best chance to unseat Jimmie Johnson?

Jimmie Johnson is the unprecedented four time, and reining Sprint Cup champion. In less that a month the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season will begin, and Johnson will look to win his fifth straight championship. Of course there are 42 other guys who might have something to say about that, so let us take a look at the five guys who are the most likely to end Johnson’s reign.

1. Carl Edwards, #99 Aflac Ford, Roush Fenway Racing- Carl is the strongest competition to take down Johnson. In fact the #99 team may be the only team that Johnson’s 48 bunch actually think is a threat. Of course Carl went winless in 2009, but that doesn’t change the fact that he has all the tools to dominate the Sprint Cup racing season. In 2008 he won the most cup races, and may have a chip on his shoulder heading into 2010.

2. Denny Hamlin, #11 Fed Ex Toyota, Joe Gibbs Racing- Ever since stepping into the NASCAR scene he has continually shown that he is a winner. He just finished his strongest year in cup, and outran the#48 in several Chase Races. Denny is a comer, and the #11 team’s goal is to take down Johnson.

3. Mark Martin, #5 Go Daddy Chevy, Hendrick Motorsports- Dude won five races in 2009, his trying to win a cup title for the first time in his long career, and is driving is the same equipment as Johnson. Mark has all the skills to get it done, and it would surprise no one if he actually did it.

4. Kyle Busch, #18 M & M’s Toyota, Joe Gibbs Racing- Once he figures out that it is consistency not race wins that rule the day in NASCAR, this kid might be unstoppable. He is a threat to win every race, and once he stops getting into beef’s, that are certainly avoidable he may himself go one a Johnson type championship streak.

5. Greg Biffle, #16 3M Ford, Roush Fenway Racing- Greg has a chance to do something that no one else in the history of NASCAR has done, and that is to win a championship in all three of NASCAR’s national racing series. He certainly has the right equipment, and is always a threat to win races, if he can add some consistency the 2010 title very well could be his.
