New 20-Ounce Pepsi Bottle Coming This Year
A new 20-ounce Pepsi bottle will soon be vying for the attention of soda drinkers everywhere.
The new design marks the first change to the company’s bottles in 17 years. The alterations were made after Pepsi lost ground to Coca-Cola in the marketplace.
The new Pepsi bottle will feature a shorter label that allows customers to see more of the beverage contained inside. The company has also made a number of changes to the bottom half of the bottle. This was apparently done to make the container easier to grip.
Pepsi’s Angelique Krembs said the company hired Mauro Porcini to reconfigure the Pepsi bottle. In order to provide changes that made sense to the company, Porcini went through the Pepsi archives to find inspiration.
“We didn’t want to create a shape that came out of nowhere. It’s not uniform, it’s a little asymmetrical, there’s a little edginess and playfulness, which is consistent with Pepsi’s equities and youthful spirit,” Krembs explained.
The company hopes to have the new Pepsi bottles in select stores by this April. A spokesperson explained that the redesigned containers will completely replace the older bottles by the end of the year.
Pepsi is hoping the reconfigured bottles will get customers interested in its product once again. Consumption of its soda has reportedly dropped around four percent in the past year. In an effort to revitalize its brand, the company is giving the public something new to look at.
In addition to the new 20-ounce bottles, the design will also be applied to the company’s 16-ounce bottles. However, this size isn’t quite as popular as the larger version.
The company hopes the redesigned containers and the presence of Beyonce in its ads will help give Pepsi a bit of a sales boost over the course of 2013. The singer will reportedly star in upcoming advertisements for the product.
