Top 10 Video Games 2010. Own These Titles Or You’ll Be Ridiculed
With video game sales reaching record highs in 2009 we’ve become increasingly excited about new games set to debut in 2010. Among our Top Games Of 2010 are revamps of popular classics (Castlevania, StarCraft, Metroid) and the continuation of other popular titles (God Of War III, Diablo 3 and Halo:Reach). Those are just a few of the games we’re excited about, here’s our list of the Top 10 Anticipated Games For 2010.
Castlevania – Lords Of Shadows
Please for the love of god let this game be good. It’s suppose to mark the reinvention of the series and it looks a lot like God of War. If you own a PS3 or XBOX 360 you need to see the graphics and gameplay for this new version of the classic game. I could explain how it looks, but instead here’s a trailer:
Dead Rising 2 (Capcom)
Zombies are all the rage right now, and what better way could there be to get more involved in the genre than Dead Rising 2. Just like the first version of the game, you’ll be fighting off a seemingly never ending onslaught of zombies with everything from propane tanks and lawnmowers to slot machines and your fists. Sure it probably won’t offer many new concepts, but in terms of all out butt kicking, it’s a great way to spend a night of gaming with friends.
Here’s the official High Definition Trailer for Dead Rising 2:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best Wii games to arrive to the console since it’s release and Super Mario Galaxy 2 is promising to deliver the same type of gameplay with new worlds to explore. Nintendo isn’t rocking the boat too much with this release, but Yoshi is available this time around and the gameplay is definitely addictive.
Here’s a trailer:
Metroid: Other M
They could port Metroid to a black and white in-television and I would still want to play it for nostalgic purposes. Instead however they have brought on the team behind Ninja Gaiden and upped the graphics to create a multimedia rich world with new gameplay options.
Here’s a trailer of the game in action:
Final Fantasy XIV (Square Enix)
It’s a gaming sin to not include a Final Fantasy game in your top 10 lists for any given year and 2010 is no different with Final Fantasy XIV. The game was a huge hit at the most recent E3 show, wowing attendees with amazing graphics, superior gameplay and the know-how of 10 installments before it. If you want a game you’ll play in darkness, locked away from the worlds for days at a time, you’ll definitely want to check this one out. Specifics about the game are still under wraps but we do know it will release for the PS3 and PCs, while an Xbox 360 version is still a possibility.
Here’s a Final Fantasy XIV Trailer to wet your appetite:
God of War III
Starting up right where God of War II left off this PS3 game is sure to be a huge hit in 2010. The graphics are pretty much the same fare as the last offering and the gameplay looks to be the same, but what’s important here is the ability to keep the story moving forward while ripping through enemies with the angst of a god…of…war (see what I did there).
Check out this bloody mess of a game here:
If you need to catch up on the plot of God Of War before playing I suggest buying the first two games, in the meantime here’s a quick synopsis from MSNBC: “The plot is a bit labyrinthian to newcomers of the series, but revolves around Kratos, a Spartan warrior who displaced Ares as the Greek god of war, only to be cast down from Olympus by Zeus and the other gods. Needless to say, he’s not happy”
Halo: Reach (Microsoft)
Honestly, not much is known about Halo: Reach at this time, other than the fact that the Spartans will play a larger role in the game, including a larger appearance by the Master Chief. We also know the game is a “prequel” to the current games and that it’s still a first person shooter. The trailer appeared at E3 and there was an odd silence over the crowd, before, during and after the trailer was shown, I’m still debating if that’s a good or bad sign. Either way this is a Halo game and therefore it would be silly of me not to place it on a list of the most anticipated games of 2010.
Here’s the E3 teaser trailer for Halo Reach (yeah we know it doesn’t show anything):
Split/Second (Disney Interactive)
We know we’ll see plenty of racing games in 2010, but most of them won’t look half as sleek or well polished as Split/Second from Disney Interactive. The cars are fast, the cinematic feel is top notch and the ability to change how the track is played by blowing stuff up brings a whole new level of interactive play to the driving game genre. If you just want to drive and blow stuff up this is the game for you in 2010. It’s like a really cool version of the movie Death Race, with much cooler looking vehicles and the raceway doing all the physical damage instead of vehicles equipped with weapons.
Here’s the Split/Second E3 Trailer:
StarCraft II (Blizzard)
This is one of those games that floats around the rumor release mill for years, getting pushed back repeatedly as it gets tweaked more and more every day. However it’s also a take on one of the best video games every made and the team at Blizzard has promised not to mess with the basics of the game too much. One thing is for certain if the strategy for gameplay is solid, the graphics are better than the first go around and the massively huge battles are fun to play, this will be one of the best, if not the best game of 2010.
Take a look at the game here:
Diablo 3 (Blizzard)
Another classic reinvention in the works by Blizzard. If they can get this game to market, along with StarCraft 2 it will be a very good year for them. This time around there are three classes (Doctor, Wizard and Barbarian) which all offer their own special skills and different levels of strengths plus weaknesses. If the same attack with a hack approach is taken to this game, it should be well worth buy.
That’s our list of the Top 10 Games To Buy in 2010. Whether you want violence, violence or more violence, these games are sure to wet your appetite, while providing hours of excellent gameplay on the PS3, XBox 360 and Wii gaming consoles.
