Tomb Raider Takes Top Sales Spot For Second Straight Week

Tomb Raider is still an incredibly popular game two weeks after its release. The game took the top spot on sales charts in the UK one week after its release, and it repeated that feat last week.

The fact that the game has been popular wasn’t exactly a surprise as one report showed that one million gamers had booted up the game just two days after it was released.

Tomb Raider is impressing people with its sales numbers particularly because it was able to beat out some big name new arrivals last week. Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm and God of War: Ascension both debuted on March 12.

Both of those games finished behind Lara Croft’s title in sales. God of War ended up in the second spot and Starcraft 2 took up the third spot.

If there was any bad news to be had from the new charts, it was that Lara saw her game’s sales drop 72 percent. One game that might have surprised some by being so high on the chart was Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2.

Ghost Warrior 2 is the follow up to a pretty successful predecessor, but Sniper: Ghost Warrior never got higher than eighth on the UK sales charts.

Lara Croft will have her work cut out for her if she wants to stay atop the UK sales charts after this week. Gears of War: Judgement is due out tomorrow and that, along with Starcraft and God of War getting a second crack at sales, could finally knock her from her perch.

Despite its struggles at launch, SimCity is also still chugging along in sales sitting at the fifth spot on the sales charts this week. That is a drop of three spots from a week ago however.

Have you bought Tomb Raider yet or are you planning on buying it in the near future?
