‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Adds Daniel Cudmore’s Colossus
Daniel Cudmore will reprise his role of “Colossus” for Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, the director revealed Friday night.
Singer, who directed X-Men and X2: X-Men United before leaving the series for Superman Returns, tweeted a photo of a handful of actor head-shots tacked onto a wall. Most of these photos belong to actors already announced to join (or return to) Days of Future Past.
The photo reveals a head-shot of actor Daniel Cudmore, who played the mutant Colossus in X2 and X3: The Last Stand.
Cudmore’s Colossus only appeared for a cameo in X2, but his scene was easily one of the most memorable of the entire film. X3: The Last Stand saw his role expanded, but barely. He finally got to don an X-Men uniform, and was present in many fight scenes, but I honestly don’t remember him doing anything except fastball special-ing Wolverine once or twice.
In the Days of Future Past comic book storyline, Colossus plays an important role, and it is revealed that he has married Kitty Pryde (played be Ellen Page, also returning from X3 to Days). Pryde is the central character in the comic books, as the future version visits the past to warn the X-Men of a disastrous event that pretty much cinches it for mutant-kind and leads to the dystopian future.
I’m hoping Cudmore gets a fairer shake this time around, but he’s got a lot of returning actors from two X-Men franchises to contend with.
The massive star-studded cast combines First Class and X-Men trilogy vets, including: Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Anna Paquin, Nicholas Hoult, Shawn Ashmore and James McAvoy. Joining them is X-Men newcomer Peter Dinklage as the unnamed villain.
