John Stamos Lands Major Arc On ‘Necessary Roughness’
John Stamos has landed a season-long story arc on USA’s football drama series Necessary Roughness.
Stamos will appear in all 10 episodes of the third season as Conner McClane, the founder of a global sports and entertainment management company called V3. McClane sees the success Dr. Dani (Callie Thorne) has with TK (Mehcad Brooks) and the New York Hawks and wants her to join the V3 team.
Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva reports that USA aggressively pursued Stamos for the role, proving the network’s commitment to the series.
This is the third major TV role for Stamos in a short period of time. Not only has he been recurring on NBC’s comedy The New Normal, but he also just signed on for the lead role in the network’s pilot I Am Victor. He will play Victor Port, a high-powered and highly sought after divorce attorney in Los Angeles. Port isn’t above resorting to extortion and manipulation to win his clients’ cases. The series has been described as “house as a divorce attorney.” Currently there is no premiere date for I Am Victor, as it has yet to be ordered to series.
Stamos also previously appeared on Glee as Carl Howell, the eventual ex-husband of guidance counselor Emma (Jayma Mays).
Necessary Roughness was renewed for a third season on January 7. The series began its second season on June 6, 2012; 16 episodes have aired so far. The series has performed modestly in the ratings, usually drawing between 2.6 and 2.9 million viewers per episode. The most recent episode, “There’s the Door,” pulled in a meager 1.98 million viewers when it aired on February 20. The season low, however, was the February 6 episode, “The Fall Guy,” which drew only 1.86 million viewers. The season premiere, “Shrink or Swim,” and the third episode, “Wide Deceiver,” both pulled in season highs of 3.01 million viewers.
