Laurie Holden Target Of Death Threats For ‘Walking Dead’
Laurie Holden has become the target of death threats for a scene in The Walking Dead where her character Andrea accidentally shoots Daryl (Norman Reedus), according to Entertainment Weekly.
ComicBook.com reported the news on March 8, citing an interview with Reedus in the print edition of last week’s EW as the source.
EW did not have the interview available online, but in it, ComicBook.com noted, the actor said he noticed Holden arrived on set one day “freaking out” and saying, “‘People want to kill me!'”
Reedus continued: “I was like, ‘Come on.’ And the next day: ‘Norman, I’m terrified. People are threatening my life!'”
Reedus explained that to diffuse the tension, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd had Reedus pose for a picture with Holden to get across the idea, “Hey, we’re buddies. Don’t be mean to her. She’s just playing a part.” Reedus complied.
Horror Society weighed in on the Laurie Holden death threats alleged by Reedus, stating, “It’s becoming sadly apparent that the bridge between television and reality is becoming very small for some people. I just hope that these people sending death threats to a great actress get their heads out of their asses and don’t do anything stupid.”
The extent of the threats were not immediately available to The Inquisitr, so it’s anyone’s guess as to whether they were harmless online trolling or if they escalated to something more serious.
Holden and Hurd haven’t released any statements at this time beyond what Reedus revealed in the interview.
The Walking Dead was renewed for a fourth season in December 2012, but it was announced at the same time it would continue without showrunner Glen Mazzara.
As for Holden’s character of Andrea, she may not survive the season if the warning to prepare for more character deaths before the end of season three holds any validity.
What do you think about the alleged Laurie Holden death threats, and do you think Andrea will be around for long?
