Tiger Woods wins the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral after finishing the tournament at 19-under par. Steve Stricker finished second at 17-under after giving Woods a putting lesson on Wednesday.
Steve Stricker spent some time with Tiger Woods on the practice green Wednesday to help him with his putting. The time with Stricker must of paid off, as Woods shot one under par on the final day to hold off Stricker.
Graeme McDowell played next to Tiger Woods on the final two days at Doral but struggled on the back nine and finished tied for third at 14-under. Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott also finished at 14-under, Scott having the best round of the day at eight under par.
Sergio Garcia was the only other player to finish at 14-under and even sported a cap with the hashtag #ier during the tournament. The hashtag was in support of Garcia’s golf club sponsor TaylorMade.
Tiger Woods made two bogeys on the back nine to make things interesting on the final day. Steve Stricker was paired with Phil Mickelson every day this week and was the leader in the clubhouse as it all came down to Woods.
Tiger Woods has thrived on pressure throughout his career and held on to win at Doral even after shooting his worst round of the tournament Sunday. Woods was in his Sunday red outfit and made a key birdie at the second hole to give him a boost early on.
The win at the WGC-Cadillac Championship is Woods’ 76th on the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods now has two wins to start the 2013 season as he also took home the trophy at Torrey Pines in January.
Tiger Woods followed up the win at Torrey Pines with back-to-back finishes outside the top-30 before winning at Doral. Michael Thompson won last week at the Honda Classic for his first PGA Tour win of his career and played well again this week.
Thompson finished tied for eighth with three other players including Rory McIlroy. McIlroy was the talk of the media earlier in the week after withdrawing from the Honda Classic .
Tiger Woods stole the show from McIlroy after holding at least a tie for the lead after each round at Doral. Woods is one of the hottest golfers on tour right now, which could turn into a nightmare for everyone else if he continues to play well.
