Twitter trash talk blamed in NYC murder
Twitter has emerged as a source of evidence and possible catalyst in a homicide investigation in Harlem.
Two young men, Jameg Blake and Kwame Dancy, both 22, are said to have argued on the popular microblogging service before taking their dispute to the real world. The disagreement ended in the December 1st shooting death of Dancy, at 45 W. 132nd Street, across from the Lenox Terrace apartments. Blake is alleged to have tweeted “R.I.P. Kwame,” on December 3rd, two days after the murder of his long-time friend.
Blake and Dancy are said to have had arguments before, allegedly over a woman. Both accounts have since been suspended, but the two men reportedly taunted each other via Twitter up until Dancy was killed by a gunshot to the neck:
Hours before the shooting, Dancy reportedly taunted Blake with a tweet: “N—–s is lookin for u don’t think I won’t give up ya address for a price betta chill asap!” Blake’s Twitter account also full of online threats, the only one to mention his name came on Dec 3rd: “R.I.P. Kwame”.
After the shooting, Blake visited Dancy’s grieving parents in the hospital. Twitter is fully complying with law enforcement requests for information. We have previously reported that gangs in New York City have allegedly been using Twitter to escalate small scale disputes and organize criminal activity.
