Eddie Murphy is back with his Beverly Hills Cop c0-star Judge Reinhold as the actors reprise their roles from the 80s action film.
The stars have both signed on for cameos in the pilot for the new Beverly Hills Cop television show, which CBS will be airing as a pilot. Eddie Murphy will be taking on his role as Axel Foley, the unconventional and wise-cracking detective, while Reinhold will play by-the-book detective William “Billy” Rosewood, TheWrap reported.
Though he’s making a jump to television, Eddie Murphy is still making movies as well. After a long string of poorly reviewed and low-grossing films, Murphy is trying to ride the momentum of the Beverly Hills Cop return and try his hand at reviving another 80s comedy . Murphy has also signed on to star alongside Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a sequel of the hit 1988 comedy Twins, the Guardian noted.
“Arnold and I recently had dinner with Eddie Murphy and we all got along great so I think it will definitely happen with the three of us,” Devito said. “Universal have taken the reins so it’s their movie. Whether it’s called Twins 2 or Triplets hasn’t been decided yet but I’d be up for doing it in a heartbeat. But I’m just so busy right now, I can’t say when.”
The new Beverly Hills Cop will focus on Axel Foley’s son, Aaron Foley, played by Brandon T. Jackson. Eddie Murphy will reportedly be appearing as the father figure.
Like the original film from 1984 and its subsequent sequels, the television version of Beverly Hills Cop will be an hour-long police drama with comedic elements.
It is currently in pre-production , with no timeframe on when it will appear on television, so it appears that fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold reunited.
