Injustice: Gods Among Us will feature Superman and the “Red Son” story arc in future DLC.
The newest DC Comics videogame puts infamous comic book superheroes such as Wonder Woman, Superman, and the Green Lantern in a new brawler that helps us forget that Mortal Kombat crossover title. Injustice: Gods Among Us is getting characters announced regularly, and this time, Kal-L (Superman to most) is getting the future DLC treatment. This DLC is now being planned in for the US.
According to IGN , the latest DLC announcement is based on the “Red Son” story arc, an alternate storyline in which Superman actually lands in Ukraine in Soviet Russia instead of Smallville. As a result, Superman appears much more militarized, and the “S” symbol on his uniform is replaced with the hammer and sickle of Russia. Another added character was a Soviet version of Wonder Woman with darker colors.
In addition to the new version of Superman, the developers also added a new villain to counter him. The new villain is another Russian character reminiscent of the Grey Hulk from the Marvel universe, but with a fur hat and various bladed weapons stuck in his back. Grundy appears to be an undead monster that the people tried to hang, but he survived, hence a noose around his neck looking like a collar. The undead aspect is made obvious from a scene where Grundy is pulling himself up through the pavement, but with a lot more force and determination.
There are also 20 additional missions included with the “Red Son” story arc. This new set of missions give the new version of Superman a fully fleshed-out storyline, as opposed to oft-scoffed characters from Netherealm’s older Mortal Kombat series such as “Meat” and “Mokap.”
Other characters who may or may not give cameos in the “Red Son” story arc, according to Comic Vine , are Batmankoff, Bizarro (a hideous Superman clone created by Lex Luthor), and a reprogrammed Brainiac.
