Bradley Cooper’s next big role might be that of director.
Deadline reports that Cooper might be making his directorial debut in an American remake of Kokowääh, which was a huge success in Germany. Cooper is already poised to produce the film and star in it, but he might end up using the project to get his feet wet on directing, as well. Cooper is considering taking up directorial duties on several films he’s lined up .
The script for Kokowääh is currently being written by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph from an earlier draft by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair, reports MSN .
Kokowääh was the highest-grossing film in Germany when it came out in 2011. Its sequel (yep, Kokowääh 2 ) opened at number one in the German box office just a few weeks ago. Interestingly, both films were directed by their leading man, Til Schweiger. We know him over here best for his role as Hugo Stiglitz in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds , but over in Germany, Schweiger is like Tom Cruise. He’s a huge deal.
Another fun bit of trivia: Schweiger’s own daughter, Emma Tiger Schweiger, played the role of Maddy in both Kokowääh films.
Anyway, a short summary has Kokowääh “explor[ing] the relationship between two men – carefree bachelor Henry and devoted husband and father Trevor–when they are forced to re-evaluate their lives after discovering the reality behind the paternity of Trevor’s 8-year old daughter Maddy.”
So who will Cooper play? Will he direct the film? He’s got a full plate until he decides, that’s for sure. Next up for Cooper is The Place Beyond The Pines , a Derek Cianfrance crime drama starring Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, and Th e Hangover Part III , which I don’t have much to say about except that it better be more like Part I and nothing like Part II .
Cooper is also currently developing projects called American Sniper, Dark Invasion , and is set to star in Cameron Crowe’s as-yet untitled next film. The actor is also re-teaming with David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence for the director’s untitled Abscam project.
The Bradley Cooper-starring Kokowääh will probably be around sometime in 2014. Do you think that Bradley Cooper would make a good director?
