Alexis Bledel Cast In Fox Comedy Pilot ‘Friends & Family’
Gilmore Girls’ Alexis Bledel has scored her first regular role in over five years.
The 31-year-old has been cast as the female lead in Friends & Family, and will be starring opposite Jason Ritter in Fox’s comedy pilot.
According to Deadline, the single-camera comedy is based on the UK series Gavin & Stacey. The series centers on Gavin (Ritter) and Stacey (Bledel) who try to maintain their relationship, originally formed online, while combining their families’ lives.
Ritter recently recurred on NBC’s Parenthood opposite Bledel’s Gilmore Girls co-star Lauren Graham. Ritter played Mark Cyr, who has a brief relationship with Graham’s character, Sarah Braverman. Mark and Sarah break up after Sarah decided to put her job before her relationship. She turns down a wedding with Mark to accompany her boss to Los Angeles for a photography job.
Dustin Ybarra, who most recently appeared in the film 21 & Over and two episodes of Showtime’s Californication, has been cast as Gavin’s roommate and friend, Smithy.
Alexis Bledel most recently appeared in three episodes ofAMC’s Mad Men. She will be appearing in the Brian Horiuchi-directed film Parts Per Billion, which is currently in post-production and set to be released in 2014. Bledel also played Lena Kaligaris in the 2004 film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and its 2008 sequel.
Friends & Family is written by James Corden (How To Lose Friends & Alienate People), who played Smithy in Gavin & Stacey, Ruth Jones, who played Nessa in the UK series, and David Rosen.
