Lindsay Lohan’s Lawyer Deemed ‘Incompetent’ By California Judge
Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer was deemed “incompetent’ by California Judge James Dabney. The judge in Lohan’s latest hearing made a point to note the New York lawyer’s lack of knowledge about California state law.
Judge James Dabney added insult to injury when he heaped even more public humiliation onto Mark Heller. The California elected official also strongly suggested that the NYC attorney garner some help from a lawyer who actually knows what they are doing before filing anymore motions, Radar Online notes.
Lindsay Lohan’s attorney previously filed a motion asking for a continuance based solely on the fact that the beleaguered actress deserves “mercy and compassion.”
Judge Dabney had this to say to Lindsay’s attorney during a recent court hearing:
“Somebody needs to come in to assist you who has some experience in California law for procedure or Miss Lohan is going to come in her and waive her right to have attorneys who are competent in California law and procedure to go forward.”
The California judge was reportedly concerned about the lack of conformity in motions field on Lindsay Lohan’s behalf. The motion which noted the now infamous mercy and compassion phrase also stated that the movie star had made a commitment to “elevate her life.”
Heller became Lohan’s lead counsel in late January after Shawn Holley was relieved of the need for his services. Lindsay was offered a plea bargain which included no jail time but required 60 days in a rehab center. She has turned down the deal and is fighting the latest charges levied against her in court. Lohan’s court date is March 18, according to Fox News.
An excerpt from the Lindsay Lohan motion which caused Judge Dabney to questions the lawyer’s competence reads:
“And place this case on a slow track so that Lindsay Lohan, during the pendency of this case, can demonstrate her worthiness for compassion and mercy by using her present and future actions to set a glorious example of how a collaborative, constructive and creative case strategy formulated by the Defense counsel, the Prosecutors, and the Judicial System all working together can benefit and elevate a Defendant and Society.”
