Susan Boyle Will Make Her Film Debut In ‘The Christmas Candle’
Singer Susan Boyle will make her film debut in the upcoming holiday flick The Christmas Candle.
The film tells the story of a town that is visited by angels every 25 years. In addition to Susan Boyle, the movie also stars Samantha Barks (Les Miserables), Hans Matheson (Sherlock Holmes), and Sylvester McCoy (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey).
According to MSN, the period film found Boyle dressed in a number of elaborate costumes.
The singer said of her experience:
“Everyone on set is a delight to work with and it’s a fantastic experience to be part of the team. I’m really enjoying getting dressed in the period costumes and stepping back in time. Having just landed from the Academy Awards I had an hour to unpack and repack and get to set. I’m very excited to be part of ‘The Christmas Candle’ and I’m loving every second.”
The Daily Mail reports that filming on The Christmas Candle began earlier this week. Susan Boyle will play the wife of a church warden in the movie. James Cosmo from HBO’s Game of Thrones will star as her on-screen husband.
Since Boyle is known more for her singing than her acting, she will perform a song at one point during the movie. The website explains the hymn Boyle will sing is currently known only as “The Christmas Candle Song.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director John Stephenson’s The Christmas Candle is based on the novella by author Max Lucado. Writers Eric Newman and Candace Lee have adapted the film for the big screen.
Unfortunately for Susan Boyle fans in Australian, the musical based on her rise to fame has been delayed. I Dreamed a Dream producers recently announced the show has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict. The singer reportedly had a cameo in the production.
