Dane DeHaan Discusses His Role In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’
Dane DeHaan, who in December was announced as the actor to play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, has been discussing his role in the upcoming sequel.
DeHaan has been telling The New York Times about how he is preparing for the character, who was previously played by James Franco in Sam Raimi’s incarnation of the series.
De Haan stated, “Right now it’s just about getting all my work done and bulking up a little bit. I’ll start shooting fairly soon in New York. I work incredibly intensely six days a week and I eat ever two hours. Mostly proteins and veggies.”
This news means that DeHaan’s Osborn will reportedly be a musclier version of the character, rather than a slimmer and nerdier model.
“I consume at least 3,000 calories a day,” he added. “I’ve already gained seven pounds in six weeks! I weigh more right now than I’ve ever weighed in my whole life. I’ve always constantly had trouble putting on weight, so it’s actually a whole lot for me.”
DeHaan, who has previously starred in Chronicle, was selected for the role ahead of Beautiful Creatures’ Alden Ehrenreich and Melancholia’s Brady Corbet.
The actor announced his performance via his Twitter account, writing, “To say I’m excited is an understatement. #HarryOsborn #ASM2”
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released in 3D on May 2, 2014, and production is expected to begin in 2013 throughout New York.
Alongside DeHaan, Shailene Woodley, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Sally Field will star in the movie.
