‘Spider-Man 2’ Set Photos Show Red-Haired Shailene Woodley [Pics]
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is one of next year’s most anticipated superhero properties, and news surrounding the film has moved from casting on to full-on production with a recent first look at the new Spidey costume.
Now, set photos of Shailene Woodley arriving to the set have made their way online, giving us our first look at the new Mary Jane Watson.
Woodley is a natural brunette, but can be seen in the photos sporting red hair, one of the defining visual attributes of Spider-Man’s longest-running romantic interest in the comics.
Mary Jane Watson was played by Kirsten Dunst in the original Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man trilogy, notes SlashFilm.
It is unclear whether Woodley is arriving on set in her own clothes, or if she’s actually in-costume as Mary Jane Watson. Beautiful though she is, it does kind of look like the Secret Life of the American Teenager star just woke up and hasn’t sat down in the makeup chair yet. Sorry, Shailene!
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars original cast members Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. They will be joined by Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan and, as Mary Jane Watson, Shailene Woodley.
Woodley’s role is said to be more of a bit part or cameo than anything, but it is meant to set her up for future appearances in the rebooted franchise. Pretty much everyone knows what ultimately happens to Stone’s Gwen Stacy (comic fan or no) and that Mary Jane becomes Peter Parker’s wife.
