Microsoft Windows Phone Store Now Has 130,000 Apps, New Dev Center Platform

Microsoft on Monday announced that its Windows Phone Store has now surpassed 130,000 available apps. The tech giant announced the new milestone during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Company officials also announced that the average Windows Phone user has now downloaded 55 apps.

Microsoft also claims that app downloads have increased by 75 percent since launching Windows Phone 8.

A new record amount of downloads have helped Microsoft increase its paid app revenue by 91 percent.

Customers are enjoying an increasing number of apps thanks to a growing community of developers which includes 40,000 new developers who joined the eco-system within 90 days of the Windows Phone 8 launch.

Microsoft also says more than 15,000 apps are now available only to Windows Phone 8 customers.

With more than 500,000 SDK (software development kits) since October 20, 2012, it is highly likely that even more Windows Phone 8 apps will begin to appear in the coming months ahead.

Microsoft has also been helped along by decreasing developer registration costs from $99 per year to $8 for the first year.

Along with milestone app numbers, Microsoft also revealed a new Dev Center App. The new offering allows developers to gain quick and simple access to key app metrics. The Dev Center app includes download data, crash trends, and reviews.

Also included with the Dev Center app is a live tile that allows developers to share a link to their app before it goes live in the Windows Phone Store.
