Jennifer Lawrence tripped on her way to the stage to accept the Academy Award for Best Actress, but the 22-year-old star of Silver Linings Playbook was pretty deft at playing it off.
“Thank you so much,” Lawrence told the crowd as she received a standing ovation. “This is nuts. You guys are only standing up because I fell and you feel bad. That was embarrassing.”
After Jennifer Lawrence tripped, she held her head in her hands for a moment of mock shame, the Daily Mail noted. Actor Hugh Jackman was quick to lend a hand and help Lawrence get back on stage again.
Just a few hours before her trip on stage, Lawrence was making headlines for another awkward interaction. While having an on-air red carpet conversation with Kristin Chenoweth, the actress let a swear word fly that had to be bleeped by ABC censors.
The actresses were chatting about the Lifetime reality series Dance Moms when Jennifer Lawrence asked Kristin Chenoweth if she liked the show.
Chenoweth responded: “Is the pope Catholic?”
What Jennifer Lawrence said next didn’t make it past censors, but her statement was to the effect of asking where a bear might go to the bathroom.
That incident may not have been as embarrassing as Lawrence’s trip, which immediately became a trending topic on internet searches and Twitter.
Apparently, this isn’t the first time that Jennifer Lawrence has tripped at an awards show. Us Weekly reported of another tripping incident a few weeks ago at the BAFTA Awards when the actress lost a shoe and went tumbling.
