Matthew Vaughn To Produce ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot

Matthew Vaughn has been tapped to produce 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot.

Mark Millar, who has written Ultimate Fantastic Four,Wanted, and Kick-Ass — the latter two were both adapted into feature films, with Vaughn writing, directing, and producing Kick Ass — announced the news on Twitter, writing:

“Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news — Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot!”

The original Fantastic Four received negative reviews from critics and audiences, scoring a 27 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 40/100 at Metacritic. The sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, did slightly better, scoring 37 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 45/100 on Metacritic.

Vaughn has been a busy man as of late. He was confirmed to direct the seventh Star Wars film in November, although there was speculation that he dropped out of X-Men: Days of Future Past to helm the newest film in the Star Wars franchise. This ended up not being true, as J.J. Abrams was confirmed to helm the seventh episode. Bryan Singer ended up coming back to the X-Men franchise and recently promised that Days of Future Past will “fix s***” from X-Men: The Last Stand. However, Vaughn will still have a producer’s credit on the film.

Vaughn is also working on Kick-Ass 2, which is currently in post production. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Clarke Duke will be returning for the film. They will be joined by Jim Carrey, Lyndsy Fonseca, Donald Faison and John Leguizamo.

The Fantastic Four reboot is slated to hit theaters March 6, 2015 and will be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle).
