‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer Planning New Trilogy
Miami, FL – Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has made her millions, but she’s not done writing yet.
Whether you love or hate (and it’s only those two options) Meyer’s prose, there’s more to come as the successful yet oft-maligned author and mother of three plans to extend her novel The Host into another franchise.
The Host, popularly known as Meyer’s “other” novel, was published in 2008. She worked on it while she was editing Eclipse, her third in the Twilight series, as an escape from Edward and Bella’s world. Now, The Host is coming to the big screen, and Meyer is thinking that the novel is starting to look a little lonely on the bookshelf compared to her vampire romance series.
She is currently working on a sequel to The Host, possibly the second in a planned trilogy.
“Once you’ve created characters that have life to them, unless you kill them all, you know where their stories go. You’re always aware of what happens next,” Meyer told The Associated Press in a Tuesday interview. “I’ve got outlines for the next books. I would hope that this would be a three-book arc, but we’ll see.”
The Host has never gotten near the attention that Twilight received, which is really a shame (this is coming from a non-Twilight fan). The prose might be garden variety Stephenie Meyer, but the premise and some of the philosophical questions asked in the novel (whether intentional or not) are actually pretty interesting.
For summary of The Host, I turn to MSN:
“An alien race takes over the minds of their human hosts but leaves their bodies intact so that they can perfect the planet they believed humans were ruining. One human, a young woman named Melanie Stryder, refuses to give up her head space so easily.”
They also report that Meyer is hoping to reach a broader audience with a “guy friendly” adaptation of the novel.
The Host film premieres on March 29. Are you a fan of Stephenie Meyer?
