Sam Raimi Hasn’t Had ‘The Guts’ To See New Spider-Man Movie
Did the original Spider-Man director Sam Raimi see the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man?
Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man rebooted one of Marvel’s most lucrative franchises and did a pretty good job of it, all things considered. But since the reboot came so close to the conclusion of the previous trilogy, what does original Spider-Man director Sam Raimi think of Webb’s new take on the hero he brought to the big screen just a decade ago?
Well, he doesn’t really have an opinion, because he can’t bring himself to see it.
“I haven’t had the guts to go see the movie yet. Because I don’t want to go to my girlfriend’s wedding. I just can’t bring myself to do it. I don’t have the guts,” Raimi told The Huffington Post on Sunday while promoting his new film, Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Raimi did note that he’s a fan of both Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, and that many of the producers on The Amazing Spider-Man are friends of his. And though Raimi didn’t have “the guts” to go see it, his wife told him that they did a pretty good job with the film.
“My wife even loved the picture and said it was a wonderful, excellently produced, beautifully acted, brilliantly written Spider-Man picture. She’d tell me the truth and that’s what she said,” Raimi said.
Raimi also wishes Marc Webb the best of luck as he continues his take on the character.
“I only wish him the best and I salute them because it’s a tough job, too. And obviously he’s pleased the fans — so, I’m proud for him. I’m happy for my friends on the picture.”
Production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently underway, with Marc Webb recently teasing a look at Andrew Garfield’s new Spider-Man costume on his Twitter. SlashFilm has a few theories about the pictures, which show a dramatically different eye-piece for the Spider-Man mask than in the first film. The most persuasive of which involves the possibility of Webb’s version of the “black costume.”
