Dwayne Johnson Says He Won’t Play Lobo After All
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed that he is no longer attached to the Lobo adaptation DC Comics is attempting to get off the ground.
Reports surfaced early last year that the Fast and Furious 6 star would tackle the role of Lobo in the big screen version of the story. According to Collider, it appears Johnson is no longer attached to the project.
The actor said during a recent interview that he was “excited” to play the role in the project spearheaded by director Brad Peyton. The duo had previously worked together on the family adventure flick Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Unfortunately, it would seem the movie has been placed on the back burner for the time being.
Dwayne Johnson told MTV News:
“It was [something that I was going to do] for a minute, but then it kind of just went away, as things happen in Hollywood. For a minute, I was interested in it, but then it went away.”
The Playlist explains that Johnson’s departure from Lobo doesn’t mean the flick has been canned altogether. However, Warner Bros. currently has its hands full with the upcoming Justice League flick, a production that’s recently had some trouble in the scripting department.
Since the studio is waiting to see if Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel proves to be a successful venture, chances are Warner Bros. and DC won’t turn their attention to Lobo for quite some time.
However, you shouldn’t spend too much time feeling sorry for The Rock. Johnson has a number of movies on-deck this year, including Justin Lin’s action flick Fast and Furious 6. The actor can also be found in Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain and director Jon M. Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Both films are slated for release in the coming months.
Are you disappointed that Dwayne Johnson is no longer involved with the Lobo adaptation?
