Police Officer Shuts Down Highway To Save Small Dog [Video]
A police officer in La Porte, Texas shut down a highway to save a small dog. Officer Kyle Jones is being called a hero for taking time to rescue Cujo the rat terrier.
Cujo wandered out of is yard on Monday morning. His owners, the Zapalac family, realized he was missing and immediately began searching for their beloved pet. Friends and family helped the Zapalacs search throughout the neighborhood, but they could not find him anywhere. When it started to rain they were especially worried. Cujo “hates water.”
As reported by Yahoo News, Cujo had wandered out of his neighborhood and onto a local highway. Officer Jones describes why he decided to shut down the highway when he saw the dog:
“He’s not going to make it if I don’t do something. When I saw it and saw the size of it, I immediately hit my lights and shut all the lanes off. You know how Chihuahuas are. You’re not really sure if you can trust ’em or not. But he kind of looked at me and said, ‘Man, I’m glad you’re here.’ He let me pick him right up. Stuck him in the back seat of the patrol car.”
Cujo was taken to an animal control officer who contacted the very grateful family. Don and Diwanna Zapalac wrote a letter of thanks to the kind officer. The letter, provided by the Huffington Post, states the following:
“He said an officer had seen him in the middle of Spencer Hwy. and the officer had stopped traffic to help our little guy! Words cannot describe how grateful I am for this wonderful, caring officer and his kind deed!! It is a wonderful feeling to know we have people like him looking out for us.”
The Zapalac family says Cujo is resting and doing just fine, thanks to Officer Jones who took the time to shut down the highway and save the life of their dog.
