Alyson Hannigan Obtains Restraining Order Against Man Who Sent Death Threats
Los Angeles, CA – Alyson Hannigan has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man who allegedly threatened to rape and kill her.
John Hobbs, 43, has been ordered to stay away from the 38-year-old actress after he posted numerous messages about her online.
In a petition to the court, Alyson Hannigan describes how Hobbs’ various missives suggested he would rape her and take her to the “after-life.” The messages also contained threats directed at Hannigan’s family.
Hannigan, who has appeared in How I Met Your Mother, American Pie, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, added:
“I am in severe fear for my safety and the safety of my family.”
Alyson Hannigan says she has never met Hobbs, who according to court documents was recently released from a mental hospital.
When police contacted Hobbs in his home town of Nashua in New Hampshire, he confessed to wanting to visit Hannigan in California. After interviewing Hobbs and reviewing his Facebook account, one officer wrote:
“Hobbs seemed to be living in an alternate reality.”
Alyson Hannigan may yet be able to extend the restraining order by another three years; a new hearing to increase the order is scheduled for March 6 in Los Angeles.
The order against Hobbs also covers Hannigan’s husband, Alexis Denisof, and their children, aged 1 and 3.
