Nicolas Cage Signs On For The Action Flick ‘Tokarev’
Prolific actor Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in the upcoming action flick Tokarev.
Cage is all set to star in Spanish director Paco Cabezas’ North American debut. According to Deadline, Cage will also executive produce the flick alongside Patricia Eberle, Richard Salvatore, Mike Nilon, Hayley Magouirk, Jim Agnew, Sean Keller, Cam Cannon, David Milner, and Martin J. Barab.
The plot doesn’t stray too far from the roles Nicolas Cage has been tackling as of late. The Ghost Rider star will portray Paul Maguire, a former bad guy who is forced to put his past to good use when his daughter is abducted.
The Wrap reports that Cage is a pretty big fan of Paco Cabezas. The actor was reportedly so impressed with the filmmaker’s worth on such films as Neon Flesh and The Appeared that he lobbied hard for him to get the job.
Jim Agnew and Sean Keller, who helped pen the Dario Argento thriller Giallo starring Adrien Brody, will tackle scripting duties on Tokrev.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hannibal Classic’s Richard Rionda Del Castro is producing the film in association with North by Northwest Entertainment. Rionda Del Castro seemed particularly enthusiastic about Cabezas involvement with the picture.
He explained:
“We worked very closely to find a director who would be a great storyteller and bring a unique vision to the film. It was a lengthy process, and in the end, we believe we’ve found in Cabezas an extremely talented artist who will craft an excellent film.”
Although production is currently slated to begin this May, it’s unclear when producers hope to have the flick in theaters.
In addition to Tokarev, Nicolas Cage is attached to star in the reboot of the religious thriller Left Behind for director Vic Armstrong. He’s also rumored to be reprising his role as Ben Gates in National Treasure 3.
