New Batman Arkham Game Set For Release Later This Year
A new entry in the wildly popular Batman: Arkham series could reach retail shelves before the end of the year.
Time Warner mentioned the upcoming sequel in a recent earnings call. According to Joystiq, the company’s release schedule for 2013 reportedly includes the further adventures of the Caped Crusader.
Time Warner’s chief financial officer and chief administrative officer John K. Martin said during the conversation:
“And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”
IGN reports that no details about the upcoming Batman title have been released beyond the fact that it exists. Although Martin said the game is currently a part of the company’s release schedule, there’s always the possibility this date could change without much warning.
An unnamed source told Variety last year that Rocksteady’s next installment would be a prequel exploring the Caped Crusader’s first confrontation with the Joker. However, Rocksteady Studios hasn’t said anything about where the story was headed next.
The Batman: Arkham series has proven to be a hit for Time Warner Interactive. Not only was the Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum a financial success, it also received rave reviews from critics. So beloved was the game that it won a Guinness World Record for “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game.”
The highly-anticipated follow-up Arkham City was also an overwhelming success when it arrived in 2011. The sequel sold two million copies during its first week of release. This made it one of the most fastest selling video games at the time.
