It was leaked at the end of 2012 that the “screaming savage” would be heading back to Atlanta for 2013. But the Braves backtracked on the decision and are now pulling the insensitive slogan from their batting caps.
The Inquisitr reported last month that the Braves, who have been using the letter “A” on their hats since 1989, were planning to bring back the screaming Indian logo for the new season.
Big League Stew reports that a picture of the hat was leaked on the internet and the logo appeared in at least one sports catalog this year.
But Team president John Schuerholz said that the Braves didn’t backtrack on the decision to use the Indian. Schuerholz said that the Indian logo was one of five that was being considered for the new season.
Schuerholz, who ended up picking the “A” again, said:
“I like the selection we made this year. We had a variety of choices that we looked at, some more thoroughly than others. But at the end, we liked this one. The fact that one person somewhere offered his personal opinion about one of our options, that was important to him … When we made our decisions, we tried to contemplate. We tried to be creative. We tried to carry on the theme of our organization and we think this script A does that. It is part of the continuum of the uniform look we have. We’ve never had one that looks like this during Spring Training.”
But TalkingChop.com isn’t buying Schuerholz story. The website believes that the Braves wanted to test the waters with the screaming Indian logo. When they found out that, surprisingly, people still find the logo offensive, they decided to backtrack and pick the script A.
Are you disappointed that the screaming Indian is going back in the bad idea drawer? What do you think of the Braves’ logo?
