Katy Perry’s Grammy Dress Laughs In The Face Of Wardrobe Mandate
Katy Perry evidently chose to ignore that “wardrobe advisory” memo from Grammy Awards broadcaster CBS.
For those just tuning in, CBS sent out a note last week requesting guests wear outfits to Sunday’s Grammy Awards that might avoid exposed breasts or buttocks, nipple slips, or “puffy” skin. Because everybody knows the human body is the most disgusting thing imaginable.
Predictably enough, a bunch of stars (according to E!, Miranda Lamber, Kat Dennings, Ashanti, and Kelly Rowland were all cleavagey culprits) ignored said memo and showed up in boob-baring gowns and dresses. Perry’s own outfit consisted of a tight, mint green gown that happily ignored the “please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered” part of CBS’ wardrobe warning.
When E!‘s Ryan Seacrest interviewed Perry on the red carpet, the pop star revealed the inspiration behind her look, but seemed keener on talking up her hair:
“I was inspired by Priscilla Presley in the ’70s. The big hair, closer to God.”
And, when Seacrest’s co-host Giuliana Rancic later teased the interviewer about how he avoided peeking beneath Perry’s face, the host quipped:
“When you are my height you have a lot of experience staying focused at that eye line. Lots of practice.”
Perry was attending the Grammys ceremony in LA with gal pal Allison Williams, star of HBO’s Girls series.
The 28-year-old pop star, who is nominated in the “Best Pop Solo Performance” category, certainly caught the attention of one Ellen DeGeneres.
