David Petraeus-Paula Broadwell Scandal: CIA Director Taken Out By ‘Palace Coup’ [Report]
CIA Director David Petraeus’ affair with biographer Paula Broadwell was exposed by disloyal agency officials, including his personal bodyguards, who wanted to get rid of him, a new book claims.
In Benghazi: The Definitive Report, the authors — a Navy SEAL and a Green Beret — claim that the FBI wanted to drop the probe, but CIA officials orchestrated its continuance because they wanted to force Petraeus to resign.
In their new book, Brandon Webb and Jack Murphy alleged the following about the David Petraeus scandal according to London’s Daily Mail:
“Senior CIA officers targeted Petraeus because they didn’t like the way he was running the agency — focusing more on paramilitary operations than intelligence analysis. They used their political clout and their connections to force an FBI investigation of his affair with Paul Broadwell and make it public, according to Benghazi: The Definitive Report.
‘It was high-level career officers on the CIA who got the ball rolling on the investigation. It was basically a palace coupe to get Petraeus out of there,’ Jack Murphy [said] …
” Additionally, [Petraeus] ran the CIA like a four-star general, instead of treating it like a political institution, the authors say. His management style made countless powerful enemies within the CIA.”
The primary focus of the text, which comes in e-book form to be released Tuesday, obviously is what really happened in Benghazi, Libya, when four Americans including the ambassador were murdered. Here the authors set forth another revelation which runs counter to the various conflicting explanations the Obama administration has advanced:
“Murphy and co-author Brandon Webb also revealed that the September 11 Benghazi terrorist attack that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, was retaliation by Islamist militants who had been targeted by covert U.S. military operations.
“The book claims that neither Stevens nor even Petraeus knew about the raids by American special operations troops, which had ‘kicked a hornet’s nest’ among the heavily-armed fighters after the overthrow of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.”
White House national security adviser John Brennan, who is Obama’s pick to become the new CIA Director, apparently was the architect this secret program that was allegedly never revealed to Petraeus despite his emphasis on paramilitary operations.
Do you think that it is plausible that office politics led to the downfall of David Petraeus, who was one the country’s most respected military officers before he left the army and took over the CIA top job? Do you think John Brennan needs to give testimony to Congress about the alleged clandestine operations in Libya and why no one ever briefed Director Petraeus or Ambassador Stevens about them?
