Authorities say the father of Alabama football signee Reuben Foster was arrested this week in Florida, after being on the run for 16 years.
According to AL.com , US Marshals busted 41-year-old Danny Foster in Miami Friday after receiving a tip of the fugitive’s whereabouts earlier in the week.
Per reports, Foster had been living under a different name, since escaping from an Alabama jail facility in 1996, where he was serving 30 years for shooting his estranged wife, Inita Berry Paige, in the back several times while she was holding their son Reuben, who was just 18-months-old at the time.
“He assumed a new identity, under the name Jefferson McClendon,” Marshals spokesman Barry Golden said “He obtained a Florida driver’s license under that name.”
US Marshals said that Foster at first denied his identity until fingerprints gave him away.
Reuben Foster, considered one of the top high school linebackers in the nation, made sports news headlines earlier in the week when he signed with the Crimson Tide despite having a tattoo paying tribute to rival Auburn University .
Though he did not discuss the incident with his father during his recruitment, Reuben took to Twitter Friday to express his emotions regarding his dad’s arrest.
“Tears pooring!!!” he wrote. “Never knew him but ain’t nothin like a real father when you keep asking Foster side where your dad at and they lie about!!!”
Marshals say Danny Foster will be extradited to Alabama to serve out the rest of his prison sentence from the late 90’s.
He is also wanted for questioning in another Alabama homicide that happened in 1997.
