‘Monsters University’ Featurette Introduces Young Mike And Sulley [Video]
Pixar has dropped an extended preview of Monsters University, the prequel to the 2001 hit Monsters, Inc.
Monsters University is set about ten years before the events of Monsters, Inc. and starts with an 18-year-old Michael “Mike” Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and a 17-year-old James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (John Goodman) not getting along. Their rivalry gets even worse when they both show up to Monsters University, hoping to become “scarers” at Monsters, Inc. But after they get kicked out of the scaring school because of their rivalry, they join a fraternity hoping to prove themselves by winning “The Scare Games.”
Essentially, it’s an animated, fantasy version of Revenge of the Nerds — at least according to ScreenCrush. And from the featurette, it’s safe to say that’s an accurate description.
The synopsis of Monsters University is as follows:
“Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.”
Steve Buscemi, who played Randall in Monsters, Inc. will also be returning for the prequel. New additions include Dave Foley, Peter Sohn, Joel Murray, and Julia Sweeney. The film was directed by Dan Scanlon and written by Pete Docter and Andrew Stanton, who wrote the original.
You can watch the featurette for Monsters University, which opens in theaters June 21, below. The film will be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.
