Kelly Rowland Responds To Allegations She Bleached Her Skin
Former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland is hitting back in a new social media video after being accused of bleaching her skin. Per Entertainment Tonight Canada, the star slammed the allegations in the new video posted to her Instagram Stories account in which she vehemently denied the claims and said that she’s “proud to be chocolate.”
The site claimed that Kelly was forced to hit back after posting photos on Instagram this week from a recent professional photoshoot. Some trolls took to the comments section of the uploads to accuse the “Can’t Nobody” singer of making her skin appear lighter.
After seeing the comments posted to her page, Rowland took to Instagram Stories to respond to the trolls via the video which was shot while in a car driving around Los Angeles, pointing out that her skin tone was due to lighting and nothing more.
“I never answer questions like this because I think it’s so stupid,” she began, per ET Canada. “I am not the one to bleach my skin, nor do I want to bleach my skin, nor do I have to bleach my skin I don’t even think that — it’s not for me.”
Kelly then continued by scolding those who suggested that she’d been lightening her skin by telling them, “don’t go saying stupid stuff like that.”
“You ever thought that it could be the lighting? I am still chocolate, forever chocolate, proud to be chocolate — shout-out to all my chocolate girls,” she then added in the video shared online.
According to Capital XTRA, much of the speculation from trolls happened in the comments section of the snaps Rowland posted online of herself from a photoshoot on October 24.
“Oh my God did you bleach skin too?” one fan asked in the comments according to the site, while another responded to the recently uploaded photos, “These pics doesn’t represent black girls out there.”
Though Kelly vehemently denied the allegations this week, she was previously accused of bleaching her skin back in 2015 after uploading a photo to Instagram that showed her getting her eyebrows bleached.
Per Bossip, the former The X Factor USA and The X Factor U.K. judge shared the picture alongside the caption, “A lil bleach ain’t never hurt nobody,” which had some social media users wrongly accusing Kelly of referring to lightening her skin and not just her eyebrows.
More recently, Rowland opened up to People about feeling confident in her own skin as she admitted that it’s actually her son, 3-year-old Titan, who gives her the most confidence.
“My son makes me feel confident,” she said of her little boy with husband Tim Weatherspoon. “He’s just amazing. I’m like, ‘I did that right,'” she added.
Kelly and Tim welcomed their little boy into the world in November 2014, around six months after they tied the knot during a romantic ceremony in Costa Rica.
