Lindsey Vonn was airlifted to the hospital today after a bad crash in Austria.
Vonn was competing in the Super-G event World Championships in Schladming, Austria when she lost control and crashed down the mountain.
NESN reports that doctors examined Vonn on the mountain before she was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The first responders believe that the two-time Olympic medalist sustained a tibial plateau fracture as well as a knee injury during the crash but the exact extent of Vonn’s injuries won’t be known until she has X-rays done at the hospital.
Teammate Mikaela Shiffrin wrote on Twitter: “She has to be OK … Please be OK.”
Former World Cup downhiller Brian Stemmle added: “It doesn’t look good at all.”
It’s unclear what caused the crash but Vonn said that rain on Monday had mad the course very icy.
Vonn wrote in a blog post for the Denver Post :
“None of our staff has been on the hill. We don’t know what shape the hill is in. We don’t know anything about it.”
Sports Illustrated also notes that today’s even was postponed for more than 3 hours due to heavy fog.
