Robert Pattinson Gets Dirty Down Under On ‘The Rover’ Set

Robert Pattinson may have swapped the goldfish bowl of Hollywood for Australia, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of sight.

The actor, who has been in Oz since mid-January prepping for his latest film, The Rover, was recently snapped filming in Adelaide’s mountainous Flinders Ranges.

Adelaide Now managed to scoop a few photographs of Pattinson that have now gone around the world, and back.

In the shots, the actor can be seen getting a pasting in a fight scene on the roadside set. The action sequence seemed to require the 26-year-old — who is also sporting a buzz-cut — to stagger out of the passenger side of a vehicle before being beaten to the ground by the driver.

Filming on The Rover has also moved from locations in Quorn, a coastal town about 290 km north of Adelaide and the sparsely populated town of Bruce.

The shoot will reportedly shortly move to other locations deep in the Flinders Ranges this week, before heading further north next month.

Directed by Blue Tongue Film alum and Animal Kingdom helmer David Michod, The Rover also stars Guy Pearce (L.A Confidential, Memento), and Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly, Argo).

Last year, the Pattinson describedThe Rover as:

“[It’s] a kind of a western. It’s very existential. It’s really interesting. I couldn’t really explain to you what it’s about but it’s sort of about how much pain can the world take and how much disgust and cruelty before love dies. I think that’s kind of what it’s about.”

Nutshelled, the plot follows Eric (Pearce) who is forced to pursue a dangerous gang of criminals — who stole his car — through the Australian outback because of something priceless stowed in the car.

Along the way Eric enlists the help of Reynolds (Pattinson), the “naïve and injured junior member of the gang, who was left behind in the bloody chaos of the gang’s most recent robbery.”

The whole thing is set in the near-future and it will be interesting to see what dimension, if any, that brings to a production film buffs are already talking up on “Most Anticipated Film Lists.”

It’s probably quite an eye-opener for local Australians to see Pattinson out and about in Adelaide, but from the look of recent fan interactions, the actor seems happy enough to shoot the breeze.
